FRUIT OR VINEGAR FLY

Morphology: It is between 3 and 4mm.de long (including wings). Opaque, light brown to brownish yellow. Bright Eyes reddish brown.

Habitat and food: These flies are attracted primarily by the fresh fruit and due to yeast fermentation. Foods lose their appeal when they begin to degrade by bacteria or fungi. Infested materials are bananas, grapes, peaches, pineapples, tomatoes, mustard pickles, potatoes, ... and fermented liquids such as beer, cider, vinegar and wine. The larvae develop in liquid medium but seek drier areas for the cocoon stage. Adults newborns are attracted to lights.

Life cycle: Females lay their eggs (about 500) near the sources of food, the eggs hatch 30 hours 3n. The larvae develop in 5-6 days before forming a cocoon. . At 2 days and are sexually mature adults. They live for 6-8 days.
